Will my child be assisted in the cafeteria?

How much does lunch cost?

Regular lunch:             $2.15
Reduced lunch:           $0.40

Free:                         No charge

How can I pay for my child’s lunch?

Please place lunch money in a clearly labeld bag or envelope (Lunch Money) and send it to school in your child's red folder (provided by their regualr Kindergarten teacher).  All other monies (field trips, parties…) should be given to the regular Kindergarten Teacher and should be clearly labeld to avoid any confusion.  You may pay for lunch daily, weekly, or monthly, however we highly reccomend sending a check for the month (if possible) or the school system provides a service to pay lunch accounts online.  Please go to
www.myschoolbucks.com for more info.  We will do our best to notify you when your child’s lunch account is low.

Did you just say my child can eat breakfast at school?

Yes, we did.  Breakfast is available to all. You can keep this in mind for those busy mornings when you just can’t seem to get moving.  We ask that if your child does not regularly eat breakfast in the morning but wants to from time to time, please send in a note designating additional monies for breakfast so these little ones aren't spending lunch money on breakfast...it happends more than you think.

 How much does breakfast cost?

Regular breakfast:       $1.15

Reduced breakfast:      $0.30

Free:                         No charge

Can I send in breakfast with my child?

No, breakfast must be eaten at home or purchased from the cafeteria.

What if I forget to send lunch or money with my child?

Your child will be permitted to charge; however, if this charge is not settled in a timely manner, your child will receive a plain old, not at all exciting, cheese sandwich for lunch.

What will my child eat?

The breakfast and lunch calendars can be found on the school's webpage.  Please be advised that Kindergarten students will NOT be permitted to purchase snacks from the cafeteria this year.  Virginia Beach City Public Schools participates in both the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs.  All meals offered meet the established Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs), student's calorie needs, and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The menu planning system provides students approximately 1/4 of the RDA for key nutrients for breakfast and approximately 1/3 of the RDA for key nutrients for lunch. Current prices for breakfast, lunch, and a la carte are available.

Payments for meals can be made using one of three methods:

  1. cash at time of purchase
  2. computerized point of service which allows students to have individual accounts for prepayment of meals/snacks and payment at the time of service. Student accounts are used for full-price meals, reduced price meals, free meals, and a la carte purchases.
  3. online at vbschools.com using Visa, MasterCard, or a debit card. This online service allows parents of students to prepay money directly into their child’s account; monitor their child’s food purchases; set up low-balance e-mail reminders; and schedule recurring payments.
We will send an application for free or reduced lunch benefits with every child.  If you need an additional application for some reason,  they can be obtained from the following sources:

  • School office
  • Returning students will receive an application through the U.S. Postal Service during the summer.
  • Office of Food Services: 757.263.1101

Menus are posted on vbschools.com and broadcast on VBTV (channel 48).

For more information call the Office of Food Services at 757.263.1101, or call your school’s cafeteria manager.

How should my child behave in the cafeteria?
Every student is expected to buy or bring lunch. While eating meals in the cafeteria, all students are expected to follow these guidelines:
  • Practice good manners and socialize quietly
  • Leave the table and surrounding area clean and orderly
  • Return trays and utensils to wash area
  • Put trash in proper containers

Can my child bring his or her own lunch?

Yes.  In order to provide your child with the necessary nutrition to survive a full day of Kindergarten we ask that you limit the amount of sugary foods you send with your child.

For tips on packing a healthy lunch to go www.consumerreports.org and search “how to pack a healthy lunch.”

Can I eat with my child?

Yes, after signing in at the office, you will find a designated table for parents and children to dine together in the cafeteria.  Please be sure your child continues to follow cafeteria rules.

Can I bring in food to share with the class?

Yes, please give us notice so that we can be prepared and can provide students with allergies an alternative.
