EDK Policies and Procedures

Behavior  It is our goal to build a community of learners in the classroom in which every member of our classroom community is respectful of each other and allows each friend to learn in his or her own way. In the classroom, we handle discipline problems in a calm, non-threatening manner. Those who are following the rules are pointed out rather than singling out the ones who are “forgetting” our rules. We make a big deal over responsible, desired behaviors and try not to give attention to those behaviors we do not like to see repeated. However, inappropriate behavior is not without consequences. These behaviors will be addressed privately between teacher, student, and parents and a behavior management plan will be created. Appropriate behavior is expected of all EDK students.

Attendance Regular attendance is vital and is expected of all EDK students. Failure to comply may result in dismissal from the program.

Homework There will be no homework assigned from the Extended Day classroom; however, we would be happy to provide ideas for additional reinforcement at your request

Routines Your child should come to school well rested. It is important to have a consistent bedtime routine. Reading to your child at bedtime is one of the most valuable gifts you can give him/her. Talking with your child about school is a wonderful way to show your support and build a successful year! Please make sure your child has enough to eat each morning. Snacks are not served in kindergarten.

Conferences A conference regarding your child’s progress will take place with the regular kindergarten teacher. If needed, the Extended Day Kindergarten Teacher will attend these scheduled conferences. If you have questions or concerns prior to that time, please contact us. We strongly believe in good communication between teachers and parents. Together we can do great things for your child’s education.

Early Dismissal Days & Delayed School Openings
Students in the EDK program will follow the dismissal schedules for students in grades 1-5.  The EDK day for early dismissal days will begin @ 8:30 and end at 12:30pm.  In the event of a delay, EDK students will report to school even if morning Kindergarten has been canceled.
